Conflicts in love

I recently watched an avant garde movie called "Love Lies and Bleeding".

The movie took a few things to the extremes with the plot and with clear decisions to be made.

On introspecting the movie, there were different kinds of love: Sibling love (to protect the other), Husband-wife love (the wife loved him despite he being a physical abuser), father-daughter love/ dislove (where one daughter separated from the father due to his alleged killing of her mother) and lesbian love (2 ladies loving one lady).

The clashes and conflicts that came:
One sister wants to protect her sister from abuse and is ok with killing her husband while the abused sister wants to continue her troubled relationship with her husband. Priority and purpose of love.

One lady loving another while a stranger loves the same girl. Competition in love.

A father wants to protect her daughter from cops while she says mum about the killing of the mother and others by her dad. Love to not hurt.

The conflicts came when one love or the purpose of one love came in confrontation or a higher priority of another love.

In modern worlds, these conflicting loves are there but not shown explicitly.

One of the most common substitutes of love is giving time. When one relationship gets more time (or assumedly more time than required) than another, this comes as a conflict in love. These relationships could be grandparent-parent v/s parent-child v/s parent-in laws v/s spouse-spouse v/s friends time v/s relaxation or hobby time.

It is almost impossible not to have conflicts with the limited resources of time.

How we keep what relationships we want for the future, manage/reduce the non-value added relationships to get what we want out of life is the question.

Relationship between Time and Money

The relationship between these 2 things is interesting:
The middle class and poor, value money more than time and give their time to earn money.

The business class and the rich, value time more than money and spend money to save time.

For this class, money is time.

Money is a tool with multiple purposes - to buy something for someone and make someone happy, to attend the best schools and gain the best knowledge to use, to travel around the world for business meetings, conferences and build and keep connections and build the networks. To get the best of the services to solve the problems than spend time to figure it out.

The middle class and the poor, don't know many ways to make money apart from trading their time to earn money with the particular set of skills they have.

For this class, time is money.

As potential to earn is limited, money is scarce and cannot be thought to spend on things, services that could have been outsourced.

For the business class and the rich, know that there are multiple ways to make money, but time is limited. They have seen their money and wealth go up and down many times and understand it much deeper. They sometimes have connections (trust from customers, suppliers, associations, bank credit, mortgaging assets) they can leverage to get back from a bad position.

The Time Machines

A facebook message:
"Memories, Dreams, and Love .... I believe they are all 'time-machines' in essence.....don't you think so?

Memories take us back in time.
Dreams propel us ahead of time.
And Love, well, ... it freezes the time :)  "

Time by Pink Floyd

Ticking away the moments that make up a dull day
Fritter and waste the hours in an offhand way
Kicking around on a piece of ground in your home town
Waiting for someone or something to show you the way

Tired of lying in the sunshine staying home to watch the rain
And you are young and life is long and there is time to kill today
And then one day you find ten years have got behind you
No one told you when to run, you missed the starting gun

And you run and you run to catch up with the sun, but it's sinking
Racing around to come up behind you again
The sun is the same in a relative way, but you're older
Shorter of breath and one day closer to death

Every year is getting shorter, never seem to find the time
Plans that either come to naught or half a page of scribbled lines
Hanging on in quiet desperation is the English way
The time is gone, the song is over, thought I'd something more to say

Role reversal

There was a time when my grandmom used to force-feed me, my mom used to take me to hospitals when I was ill and my dad used to take care of searching a school for me and advising me on jobs.
But this week, I threatened my grandmom to eat well or I will force feed her with a spoon, took my mom to a hospital (nothing serious though, just a 5min minor operation ) and am looking out for jobs for my dad and advising him on investments and disinvestments.
Interesting times I live in.
It does feel funny and good to reciprocate in the same coin :)

Ring a bell?

I watched a couple of uninterrupted hindi songs on late night tv after a year or so. Each song I heard took me to a certain past of my life. One of them sure did remind me of the poolside at AIM where this song was particularly popular and the other one reminded me a friend with whom I am not in touch now.  Well, the memories of the times I lived in is tied to the songs I used to hear or see.

The free time of my life

Finally, I have the free time of my life and I started and completed that was pending for more than 5 years. Rationalising the email ids with the right names of the people, removing unknown people from the contacts of one of my email addresses. I wonder why some people have 2 gmail ids itself and keep the friends confused as to which one to send it to. One particular guy had sent me mails from 6 different email ids in these years. Finally I cut him upto to size :D
Now to do the next rationalising by organising files and backing up phone numbers and gear up for the next  phase of life ahead.

EST

When I see deadlines for saying 5pm EST, I thought EST stood for Eastern Standard Time. Well I was right.
Next I thought that was for a standard international time for something in the East of the world (Asia) and mostly that would be Singapore time. The most advanced and important transit country in Asia.
It turns out I was wrong big time. It is the standard time of the eastern sea board of the USA.

Planning

We overestimate what we can achieve in a day and we underestimate what we can achieve in a year.

Time zone difficulties

It is difficult connecting to people across various time zones. Previously, while I was in Manila, I remembered that Pittsburgh is exact 12 hr behind and it was easy to chat with someone there knowing the time. Now after coming to India, I have moved 2.5hrs. Had to think to know what time it is in Pittsburgh while I am here. Now another complication, daylight savings...It has moved one hr... had to again figure out which way is that...When someone in Pittsburgh says I will come online and chat with you at a particular time on some date, I need to start calculating which day is it for me: is it the same  date or the next one(as I am ahead). Then calculate the time...Pretty complicated... Thankfully neither I or my friends move around countries... Else, my time warped life will be in a recursive time warp...which basically means going insane....

So confused

When things go so fast that time blurs, when you can't differentiate yesterday from the day before, when talks that people deny having had with me feel as if there was indeed such a talk, when there is nothing as odd hours in a 24hr cycle, it is very scary.
Getting back to one of my previous posts, why cant we all live without having something known as conciousness.

Evolution in MBA

Before I joined my MBA I was constantly worried about one main thing - How will I ever manage with less sleep? I need my 8 hours of beauty ;) sleep. After joining the course, I said maybe I will have to adjust and make do with 6hrs per day. A couple of months down the line, I said "Sleep is a luxury". Those who get it are blessed. Now, at the end of four months, I say "Sleep is only an option". If you want, sleep, else you don't really have to and life will still run quite normally for 1 or 2 days without it.
This transformation is one of the key essences of an MBA. :)

Funding study time prudentially

Every student needs time to study for his/her short term tests/quizes, assignments, medium term projects and long term exams. If you were a long term planner and a conservative executor, then you would planned and used your available long term time that is available to fund your future short term needs. In the middle of it all, if you have more tasks than time, how do you fund your short term needs of study time? For one you could borrow short term funds by bunking classes(short term debt). Even more immediate funds can be got by asking help from your partners and receive ready lessons from them and promising them that they will be paid in kind at a later point in time(account payables). Another source of very immediate funds is the overdraft of sleep before the d-day(Letter/line of credit from bank). But since this is very expensive and needs to be paid back first, this should be your last source of funding. So, long term funding of study time is good. But an excessive long term funding which is a conservative measure is also bad. You would have then read almost everything and quite a lot of which will be redundant information, inefficient use of funds as there is no clarity of optimum use of the funds. Also, an excessive amount of study time would be available which would be wasted(excess cash). This excess time would only be useful if you have other plans of this like additional useful classes or strategic co-curricular activities that will boost your resume.(takeover and acquisition of a company or strategic stake in another company). The most ideal way is to have a combination of long term and short term funds, as the demand of the funding will also seasonal(start of year or end of year exam time). See that the base is funded by long term funds and your seasonal needs by short term funding. That way the time during the year will be optimally used. Well, it is more fun to apply financial knowledge to real life problems and relate it to unrelated stuff... :)
